Oh Elfie!

My Elf on the Shelf named Elfie came back from the North Pole on Dec. 1.  Since then he has got himself into lots of trouble! During the 12 days we have had him, he has made a bed out of tissues  and the box they came in, got stuck in the marshmallow jar, fell asleep in the hat my mom made, hid in the cabinet snacking on granola bars and candy, played with fire in the candle, made a 'snow' angel with sugar and sprinkles because he misses snow, and used our paper chains as a tire swing.  He rode a tube of toilet paper down the stairs, wrote a christmas message in lipstick all over the mirror in the bath room, was caught reading the third gift, and lots more.

The 3 that made me laugh the most were the toilet paper down the stairs, the snacking in the cabinet and when he got stuck in the marshmallow jar!

The day after he arrived at my house I looked at him. I realized he must get so cold at night! I got out my sewing kit and sewed him a pair of slippers and a scarf!  I left them next to him for him to put on in the morning. He hasn't taken them off since!

I made the slippers out of tiny pieces of felt. I used red and green. In the red felt I cut a little oval a little bigger than his foot, and cut another of the same thing but this time, cut it in half. I placed the one cut in half on top of the other full one, and sewed the edges. Then I cut a tiny tiny piece of green felt and sewed it on the center of the half-oval. Voila! I got an elf slipper!

For the scarf I took an old (clean) sock that I don't like to wear and laid it down flat. I took scissors and cut a thin piece (about 5 inches long and 1 inch wide). Then I frayed the edges. ( My sock scarf curled a little)  Now I have a finished elf scarf!

My family always leaves out cookies (for Santa) and carrots ( for the reindeer but I found a really wonderful idea on the internet. This year I am going to put out (along with the cookies and carrots) Elf donuts!!!! Elf donuts seem really easy to make, for the donut itself is just a Cheerio (breakfast cereal). I want to decorate them with powdered sugar, melted chocolate, and sprinkles. I will soon do a post to tell you how they come out!

Here are some pictures of  Elfie and what he has done!

Look closely at some of the pictures and you can see the scarf and slippers I made for him!

25 days of Christmas

One day during the week before Dec.1  my Mom went to the library. She came home with a big bag full of books. At the library she had gotten 25 Christmas books.  I wrapped all 25 books in cute Santa Clause and elf wrapping paper and I put them in a stack in the corner of our living room. Every night since Dec.1  me and my family unwrap one book and take turns reading it aloud. So far we have read some very good books and some not so well written books. Here are the books that we have read so far (we have missed a few days do to sleep overs and forgetfulness)

After the title of the book I will type a number. The number can go up to 5.    5 means it was a good book 3-4 mean it was okay and 1-2 mean it wasn't that good.

Babushka : 3 (by Charles Mikolaycak)

Four friends at Christmas : 2 (by Tomie DePaola)

The wee Christmas cabin : 4 (by Margret Hodges)

It's a wonderful life for kids : 5 (by Jimmy Hawkins)

Lucy's Christmas : 4 (by Donald Hall)

The Third Gift : 5 (by Linda Sue Park)

What's coming for Christmas : 2 (Kate Banks)

Auntie Claus : 1 (by Elise Primavera)

Christmas in the country : 1 (by Cynthia Rylant)

My two favorites were: It's a wonderful life for kids and The Third Gift.

It's a wonderful life for kids is about Tommy Bailey. During a time of crisis in Tommy's life, an angel-in-training grants Tommy's wish of wanting to have never been born. Arthur, the angel-in-training, shows Tommy what would of happened to his friends, family, and neighborhood if he had never been born.

The Third Gift is about a boy, who shares his father's passion of collecting sap tears. The boy and his father have found a tear of unusual size, big enough to fill his two hands. At the market three strangers, foreigners, buy the tears, to give to a new born baby.

I like The Third Gift because the story is interesting, well written and the illustrations are beautiful.

I like It's a wonderful life for kids because it includes a sweet story that makes you smile.

Two years ago I did a post about my Elf on the Shelf, Elfie. Well, Elfie came back from the North Pole on Dec.1. Turns out he loves The Third Gift too! We found him in the basket where we keep all our Christmas books reading The Third Gift!

I hope you enjoy these books as much as I did!  I'll keep you updated on what other books I read!

Here are some pictures of the books, Elfie, etc...

Art Journaling

On this page I used paint, sponge, paper and my hand
For this page I used paper, magazines and stickers!
Art journaling is a combination of art and writing. My mom (over at Teachable Moments) Teaches a art journaling class every other week with a group of my friends. I enjoy art journaling because I love art and writing. Here are a few pictures of my art journal.

For this page I wrote a halloween poem.  I used paper,  stickers
and paint.

Art journaling is so much fun because....

  • I get to see my friends.
  • I get to do art.
  • I get to write.
  • The pages let me use my imagination.
  • I can be creative.

Why art journaling is so much better than art class in a school:

  • Nobody tells you what to do.
  • You can use as much material as you want.
  •   You can do what you want to do the way you want to do it.
  •  There are hardly any rules
  •  you can be creative.
  •  You can have your art describe you.

Why art class in schools are not as good as art journaling at home:

  • Everybody has to do the same exact thing.
  • You can't be as creative as you may want to be.
  • Your trapped in a class room.
  • You might not be with your friends.

If you liked this post why not try art journaling at home! It is really easy and really fun.  Have fun!

Hurricane Sandy hit us Monday and it got really bad Monday afternoon.  Monday evening we lost power.   No power was really hard, but also really fun!

I enjoy playing board games by candle light instead of watching t.v, and using lanterns instead of lights, and no tv or iPads is actually kind of nice! The really bad things about no power are no hot meals,  no hot showers, and no wifi. I would have liked wifi... I am currently addicted to Instagram so it was hard losing wifi...  Thankfully on Wednesday, my kind Aunt and Uncle brought their generator (they already got their power back) to my house and hooked it up to our t.v, fish tank, kitchen lights, refrigerator, and... Wifi! I was able to Instagram again!

After the storm me, my sister, and my dad went on a destruction walk, so we could see what damage Sandy had done. At the park the next block over from my house a huge pine tree fell. We saw down power lines, trees on houses, shattered car windshields, and many down branches. It was amazing. And scary. I am so glad our house didn't get damage, because we saw so many houses that did.

Next we went to the beach. The sea wall was in pieces. The railing and steps leading down to the sand were broken. The beach was yards longer than it was three days before.

We lost power for four days. We got power back Friday at about 9:00 at night.

I hope all the people who lost their homes from Hurricane Sandy are okay. Did you get any damage? Comment and tell me!

Me (as Taylor Swift) and my friend (as a Christmas tree)

On Tuesday I found out that Halloween had been moved to the following week because of the remains of Hurricane Sandy!  I was so sad. Halloween is my second favorite holiday, and I look forward to it all year long.

On Halloween afternoon our friends called us to tell us that they were going to a 'Trunk-or-Treat' that night. We decided to go too, to replace halloween. I imagined that there would be 15-20 cars there. There were a lot more! We got tons of candy, and we got to hang out with our friends! Halloween wasn't ruined!

After trunk- or- treating we went to our friends house to trade candy. Right now I have 64 pieces of candy, but I ate a lot on Halloween, so I had more than 64. We a probably are not going trick-or-treating on the rescheduled  Halloween, but we don't know for sure yet. I hope you had (or if it was rescheduled have) a great Halloween!

I can't wait till halloween! This year I am being Taylor Swift. I made a duct tape guitar (even though it looks more like a banjo). I am going to curl my hair, wear a cowgirl hat, and a skirt. I am really exited! I hope I get lots of Skittles, Candy Corn, and Snickers. What is your favorite Halloween candy? Here are five reasons why I love Halloween:

1. CANDY!!!!
2. Friends
4. Decorations
5. Scary movies

One of my favorite Halloween-ish movies is The witches (based on Roald Dahls book, which is also great). It is really creepy.

A short summery of 'THE WITCHES'

The Witches is about a boy 'Luke' who gets two pet mice for his birthday. To celebrate his birthday he and his grandmother go to a seaside hotel. What they didn't realize is that in the same hotel is taking place the annual witch convention.

Luke knows a lot about witches because his grandmother (who he lives with) as a kid got attacked by one. Luke takes his mice to explore the hotel (after strictly been told not to) and brings them into a ballroom, but that is the room that the witch convention is held in, so the witches come in (Luke is hiding) and the Grand High Witch tells all the witches in England her plan on how to kill every child in the country. Luke has to develop a plan on how to stop her, but the Grand high witch already used her invention on him...

Well, I hope you have an awesomely scary Halloween!

LCC is my cupcake club. LCC stands for Lilah's Cupcake Club. The club is made out of a small group of people that like to bake. We meet at my house, about every once a month, to bake. One day I would like to own a bakery, so LCC is helping me make more challenging recipes and  to have fun with my friends.

Every month before we have our 'meeting' I make posters explaining what we will be baking that month. On Sept. 29 (our last and second meeting) We made peanut butter balls, and double chocolate cupcakes. We made the peanut butter balls first, so while the cupcakes were baking, we decorated chinese take-out containers with cute fall themed stickers and we filled them up with peanut butter balls, and brought them down to the local fire station! It was really great to make somebody that helps us all the time happy!

Inside the fire station we saw where the fire fighters sleep, lounge, and eat! The inside of a fire station is very interesting. When we got to back to my house we frosted and decorated the cupcakes, and of course dug in!

The Peabody Museum

Last week we went to the Peabody Museum! At the Peabody Museum I learned a LOT... a lot more than I thought I would!  I learned things such as: how to identify a meteorite, how much sugar is in Arizona Iced Tea, what life would be like if I were an ant, and many other cool, interesting things.

I went with my three friends, so it was a lot of fun! At the museum there is a new exhibit called 'Big Food'.  In the 'Big Food' exhibit I learned how heavy 5 pounds of fat is, how much sugar is in beverages, how hard you have to work to burn off enough calories for 1 single pretzel stick, and more. It takes a lot of work to burn off tiny pretzel stick. In the exhibit there is a big bicycle that you can go on and if you petal for long enough you can get the light to go to the top of the tube, which means you burn off enough calories for  a baby carrot, a strawberry, and one pretzel stick. I could not do it. The bike was not a normal bike, because it had extremely heavy wheels which made it harder. I think I only burned off enough calories for the one pretzel and the carrot, but I could not make it to the strawberry... but it was still a lot of fun. There were other things in the exhibit too, like a game where you have to guess how much sugar, oil, and salt is in a specific food, and you see how close you can get.

The Big Food exhibit was really fun, and I would highly recommend it to somebody who was looking for a great learning experience in CT!

Yesterday me and my friend made a fairy house and a fairy restaurant. To make it we used a nice spot against a tree, flowers, a few pieces of wood, tree bark, leaves, grass, rocks and our imagination! After my friend went back to her house I worked on it by myself. I added a lamp, leaf blankets, and a bed! Here are some pictures! I don't have any pictures of the fairy house after I added the new furniture so below are some pictures of it before I added new stuff!  I really hope fairies move in!

I am so extremely sorry that I have not blog posted in 6 months!  I am going to make a goal to try to post at least once a week (but please do not get mad at me if sometimes I break that goal)!  Well here's this week's blog post:)

I turned 10 on Saturday!  For my birthday I decided to go to Hoboken (NJ) so I could go to a very special bakery... Carlo's Bakery!!!!! If you do not know what Carlo's Bakery is, then here is a short description: Carlo's bakery is the best bakery ever and the bakery's owner is a big time celebrity named Buddy and is is the main character in my all time favorite T.V. show named CAKE BOSS!!!!!!!!!

I love baking (cupcakes especially) and one day I would like to work at, or own a bakery, so I was really excited to go to a famous bakery,  but what I didn't know was that we would  have to wait in a two block line for almost a  hour and a half (while a very annoying man sang songs and made fun of Buddy)! But it was totally worth it.  When we finally got inside we got my birthday cake, eclairs, cupcakes , cannolis, and lobster tails.  My cupcake was the best out of all of them.  It was soooo delicious! I didn't get to see Buddy because he was working at a cake factory:(
but I got to stand next to a cardboard cut out of him:)  Now I can wear Carlo's Bakery wherever I go because I got a tee shirt!!! It is brown and pink and completely awesome!!!!! I would totally recommend this place and I would also recommend shopping at the shops nearby (especially the German bakery. They have good pretzels. Yum)!  Here are some pictures so you can see my experience at Carlo's Bakery!
